The Best Ways to Fix Microphone Issue in Windows 10

Windows 10 allows you to execute all the tasks possible through a computer. You can play games, surf the internet, create a presentation, and even record your music or podcasts through a microphone. If you want to record something from your microphone in Windows 10 and you are not able to do it, you can fix the issue with the below-given guide.
Restart your PC
The major PC issues are mostly solved by merely restarting it. Do the same and restart your computer to check if it fixed the problem. It can be a temporary issue, and your microphone might start working after a simple reboot.
Install or update drivers
The drivers of the microphone are usually installed automatically in Windows 10. But if your microphone is not recording, you can try installing the latest device or microphone driver from the relevant website. This method can fix your microphone issue quickly.
Check the connections
If your microphone is not plugged correctly or in the right place, it will not work for sure. You must ensure that your microphone cord is connected with the port where the microphone symbol is labeled.  Even the connection can be a bit loose as well. So, pull out the microphone cable and insert again correctly to see if it works. Check the mute switch on your microphone also, if it is not enabled, turn it on.
Explore Windows 10 options
The microphone access might be disabled in your computer settings. To check the microphone input, go the Settings, then Privacy, and then Microphone option. If it shows the message
“Microphone access for this device is on.”, Your microphone is correctly connected with your computer. Otherwise, click the Change button and select On to allows the microphone to record.
Review recording devices
Test all the recording devices and check if your connected microphone is showing there or not. Go to Control Panel from the Start menu and then Sound to see all the recording devices. If your connected microphone is showing on the list, speak something on it and check if the level indicator moves around.
Run the troubleshooter
Windows 10 comes with its built-in recording audio troubleshooter that finds the issue and fixes it. To run the troubleshooter, you will have to click on Settings, then Update & Security, and then Troubleshoot. Select the Recording Audio option and click on Run the troubleshooter button. Follow the given instructions and see if your microphone runs after troubleshooting.
There might be a hardware issue or external microphone issue if your microphone doesn’t work after implementing all these methods. In case of the external microphone, connect it with any other PC and see if it is working. Your PC’s audio jack can also be damaged.
